Samsung Behold 2 Review Posted on: November 30, 2009
The folks at Engadget got their hands on a newly released Samsung Behold 2 and just posted their first impressions in a review. Even from the start it is clear the phone is way better than the original Samsung Behold: it is not a feature phone, it is a smartphone, with Android 1.5, 3.5mm jack, WiFi and a solid build. Te question is how is the Behold 2 compared to other Android phones.
As stated above the phone has a quality build, well finished exterior, good quality plastic, and a high density that makes it feel good in the hand. The physical buttons have their goods and bads: the volume control buttons are easy to find and operate, the camera button is a nice addition but the unlock button is hard to find and use, also the fact that this phone has seven buttons under the screen is both overkill for a smartphone and counterintuitive in use.
Software: If you pass the fact that it comes with Android 1.5 instead of 1.6 or higher the software user experience should be great, I mean it's Android right? Well It is Android, but it has TouchWiz interface slapped over it, which tries to make it look better with glossy graphics, but this, combined with the old Qualcomm 528 MHz proc found in most Android phones this year, makes the interface quite laggy.
The Samsung specific Cube UI used to open multimedia apps, is hard to navigate, good thing you can add shortcuts to the apps on the desktop.
Overall Engadget's oppinion on the Behold II is that the phone does not raise to the level of its Android competitors, especially since it costs $229 on contract.
