DROID Slate - Android Phones
DROID Slate
Posted on: December 3, 2009

Evidence started to gather that a keyboardless Motorola Droid (aka DROID Tablet or Slate) is almost ready to launch.

First there are the pictures leaked on BGR two days ago, that showed us the top and back of the Sholes Tablet. The phone, probably a prototype, judging by the blue color of the back casing, featured a 8MP camera instead of the 5MP found on the slider DROID and a mini HDMI port.

Interesting is the fact they also show a picture of a black phone that is missing the HDMI port, which makes us prezume there are two versions of the phone.

And that is confirmed today, when more pictures emerged, featuring a black version of the DROID Slate, the one with only 5MP camera and no HDMI. As you can clearly see from this back picture the phone has no keyboard, instead has an asymertic slimmer section that is fading towards the bottom of the phone.

And asymetry seems to be the keyword for this phone, the back is asymetrical left to right and top to bottom, the sides are asymetrical too but the most important (and somewhat disturbing) is the hump on the lower right side of the phone. I anin't no designer but that thing just looks out of place.

From some pictures in the gallery you'll notice it has some blue LED indicators, so it has a reason to be there, but I really hope it is just for the Chinese version (for TV reception or something) and it will be removed from the US/ international DROID.

Oh and since pictures can be shopped, even though these do look pretty legit, if you need more proof you can head to our trusted FCC that just approved a Motorola filling for a phone that is not DROID but has the same battery and has CDMA bands, codenamed P56KW1 (while the DROID was P56KD1). This can only mean it is the Tablet and it's heading to Verizon.
