Android 2.1 platform running on 55,5% of all devices

Periodical Google's pie charts and stacked line graphs are made public for all Android lovers and everyone interesting in some juicy infos about the latest Android platform distribution numbers. According to the latest report collected by Google, Android 2.1 platform is in the top with 55,5% and running on most of all Android phones.

Android Market offers more than 70,000 apps

As for the Android market, the numbers of apps are growing day by day, counting more than 70,000 apps at the moment. The information comes from the Google's staff during their Q2 earnings conference call.

Android 3.0 Gingerbread

While Nexus One is getting the 2.2 Android OS and other phones still wait for this update, everybody is focusing the attention on the further Android OS version 3.0, codenamed Gingerbread. According to the Russian website, it is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter this year and will be for high-end devices only.

Say hello to Motorola Droid 2, the successor of the first Motorola Droid. After we have been teased with pieces of the device, we now get a full and clear view of the Droid 2. It looks almost identical to the original Droid, excepting the keyboard which has been upgraded (after many complaints about that one for the first Droid), more rounded edges and maybe a little bit thinner.

Sony Ericsson's new 5-inch Android phone

We agree it's not one of the best photo you've seen, but this phone is rumored to be the new Sony Ericsson's smartphone to sport a large 5-inch display and a slide-out keyboard. This info comes from one of Engadget's tipster who is claiming that the new Android phone will run Android 2.1 while low-drivers are being tested.

Android 2.2 Froyo

No surprise here. As you've probably expected, Google announced the new version of Android 2.2 platform, Froyo, at its I/O developer conference in San Francisco. The 2.2 version was loaded on a Nexus One for testing and showing the public its highlights. According to Google, Froyo is "the world's fastest mobile browser".

Android 2.1 is the most popular version

Statistics are saying that Android 2.1 is the most used version until now. Probably the numbers will go down when Android 2.2 or Froyo will be revealed by Google. 2.1 has registered a grown from 32.4 percent on May 3 to 37.2 percent on May 17. These scores can be expected to go up with more devices getting this OS version.

65,000 Android Phones shipping per day

Few months ago, during MWC 2010, Google's CEO, Eric Schimdt, was speaking about 60,000 Android devices shipping every day. If you were wondering if the number of sales went down, it didn't. Recently, we found out from Google's CEO about the increase to 65,000 units per day. This is some bad news for those from Apple.
